They name of my business is called "MixedbyUnstable" Dj name "Dj Unstable", I'm selling the services of djing events(weddings, parties, fundraisers), mixing, and cutting music.
I began my craft in the summer of 2011, starting out as just a hobby. Controlling music during college get togethers, kickbacks, and parties. I started out djing from YouTube believe it or not. I used to open two browsers and go back an forth between them searching the next song and seamlessly transitioning it in. Until one day I inquired about Dj software and did some research. First software I came across, which I still use to this day was called Vitural Dj. It took me 3 years to actually master the program without any tutorials and just by learning by ear.
The inspiration came to me naturally. Even though when I started out I was not as skilled as I am now, djing was something that was easy for me. I love music, and always thought as a Dj the music you play should be embody a journey. As you move in and out of songs, everything should always be on beat mixing in unnoticeably. And everyone listening should enjoy the journey with you. Giving input to improve the journey, but ultimately you(the Dj) are responsible for a successful trip. When I got to the point I was confident in my abilities, I believed I should get compensated for my services. Which is how my hobby translated into my business.
WITH NEW CREATION COMES ITS DOWNFALLS...
Receiving constant and consistent support. Everyday is a grind and every gig you receive could be your last. So you must always bring your A game no matter the circumstance. Sometimes the amount of support you want to receive doesn't show up like you think it should, but as long as you know your worth and stick to what got you to this point you will be fine. Support will come from those you least expect. And when you think you don't have any, you have to be your own support system sometimes.
MARKETING IS KEY!
Good old fashion networking, most of my recent gigs have been the result of networking and establishing relationships. I love meeting new people because you never know what that person has to offer and vice versa. You never know who is in need of your services until you speak to them and find out.
I recently DJ'd an event for John Marshall Law School Business Enterprise Law Clinic. Which is huge for me because it has allowed me to expand my horizon. The event went very well, and the people were amazing. I most definitely look forward to working with them again.
